The World Bank has approved a $2.3 billion program to combat food insecurity in Africa. This sum would contribute to increasing the resilience of food systems in the region and their capacity to combat increasing food insecurity.

Food system shocks caused by extreme weather, pest invasions, epidemics, political instability, and conflicts ; were becoming more frequent and severe, exposing more people to food insecurity. Thus, the World Bank has announced the disbursement of 2.3 billion dollars to support African countries. The crisis in Ukraine is further compounding these effects by disrupting global food, fuel and fertilizer markets.
