In a letter addressed to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Burkinabe Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounces the tax convention against double taxation, which was signed on 11 August 1965 between Burkina Faso and France. This measure came into effect on February 15, 1967.

According to the Burkinabe Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this denunciation was the consequence of the refusal of the French side to renegotiate the said agreement. The Burkinabe ministry said that in January 2020 it had submitted a proposal to the French Embassy in Ouagadougou to renegotiate the non-double taxation tax convention in January 2020 so that it could adapt to changes in tax arrangements at the domestic, community and international levels

The French side having remained “silent” in the face of this request, despite the resumption made by the Burkinabe side at the end of 2021, the transitional government of Burkina Faso “has no choice but to end the convention”.
