Following the signing of the basic agreement of the Simandou Block I and II Deposit Exploitation Project, the Guinean government and Winning Consortium Simandou, WCS (consortium SMB Winning) signed on November 12, 2020 in Conakry, the rail and port agreement for the transport and export of iron ore from blocks 1 and 2 of Simandou with its benefits estimated at USD 15.5 billion for the country.

Winning Consortium Simandou will build a railway line called "the trans-Guineen" with a length of 650 to 679 km linking the mine and the deep-water port with a capacity of 80 million tons per year located in Matakang, prefecture of Forécariah in Lower Guinea.

The signing of the rail and port agreements represents a crucial step in the implementation by the Chinese of this mega-project long entangled in one of the biggest corruption scandals related to the mining sector.
