David Nguema Obiang Eyang, president of the Supreme Court of Justice since 2018, has been deposed by Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, president of Equatorial Guinea for taking bribes.

According to the presidential decree read on state radio and television TVGE, the respondent was removed "since he assumes responsibility for irregularities committed in the exercise of his high office." Indeed, he is said to have "admitted receiving a bribe of 100 million CFA francs (about 153.153,000)" to help reopen Comercial Santy, one of the country's largest supermarkets and pharmacies, which had previously been convicted and closed for "offences against public health" for altering the expiration dates of food products and selling unauthorized pharmaceutical products. For the moment, the fate of the magistrate in court is not yet sealed. It should be noted that five other magistrates are under arrest for complicity in the same case.
