The Central Bank of Ghana's annual report on fraud in Banks, Specialty Deposits, and Electronic Money Issuers discusses the various types of embezzlement observed in the sector, boosted by digital technology. “The year 2021 recorded a loss value of 61 million,” the document reads. This is explained by the increase in the costs of bank fraud. Indeed, even if the number of cases of attempted fraud fell by 12.09% between 2020 and 2021, leaving 2,670 for 2,347 cases, the trend is not downward in terms of the actual price of the fraud in question.
