The Togolese government has announced that spending to combat the coronavirus epidemic is “consistent, regular and sincere.” He thus rejected the allegations of embezzlement.

In an audit report by the Court of Auditors, significant irregularities were identified, causing outrage in the West African country. Indeed, a press release published on Thursday, February 8, 2023 mentions that the Togolese government is “pleased that this report considers that expenditure relating to barrier, response or health measures is consistent, regular and sincere.” For him, “the Court recognises that the possible ineligibility of an expenditure may result from a context marked by extreme urgency due to the unpredictability of the crisis (...) This does not mean that the expenditure is fictitious or that the funds have been used illegally or even misused”.

In reality, the Covid-19 Response and Solidarity Fund (FRSC) was created by the government the day after the first case of coronavirus was discovered in March 2020.
