The African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) has announced a new Center of Excellence for Seed Systems in Africa (CESSA) coming soon. This center will help develop better quality, high yielding seeds for various crop varieties in Africa to increase productivity.

The Center of Excellence for Seed Systems in Africa will be hosted at the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). It will start its activities in 2022 with the objective of providing modern, efficient and resilient seed systems that better serve African farmers. According to a commodafrica publication, achieving this objective will require the coordination of private and public players in the seed sector, the development and dissemination of varieties, the production and distribution of first-generation and certified seeds, as well as awareness-raising. and farmer participation. “CESSA, in collaboration with partners, will carry out analyzes of the national seed system, provide advisory services and external technical assistance, as well as training and capacity building for the seed sector. This is in addition to fostering partnerships and networks leading to grants and other investments in the sector, says AGRA's release. Africa's largest agricultural conference was held from September 6 to 10, 2021 in a hybrid fashion. Under the theme “pathways to recovery and a resilient food system”, this event brought together several African Heads of State and Government, representatives of the public and private sectors, civil society and academia.
