The Board of Directors of the Group of the African Development Bank (ADB) approved a $10 million trade finance guarantee in in favor of Exim Bank Tanzania Limited. The aim is to support Les Petites et Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and local businesses, in order to unlock and de-risking commercial transactions.

The guarantee facility granted to Exim Bank Tanzania Limited will provide up to 100% guarantees to confirming banks international payments against the risks of non-payment. This support will allow unlock trade finance lines for Exim, to expand access to essential imports and to strengthen the Tanzanian private sector. This The facility is expected to support up to $60 million in commercial transactions over three years. This support will help Exim reduce its dependence on the rare guarantees in foreign currency required by international banks, thus freeing up resources for more loans productive to local businesses active in intra-African trade and international.
