As of 2022, GGGI manages a portfolio of projects on the continent on green investments, solar, waste management, sustainable mobility, Resilient Agriculture, sustainable forests, green buildings and in green industries for a global potential of $1.3 billion.
As part of these activities, GGGI has mobilized nearly $5 billion in 2021 for these member countries. At the pan-African level, GGGI is working with Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) to implement the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Fund (CRF), which will focus on investments that improve both the quality and longevity of physical infrastructure in order to make these assets more resilient to climate change impacts.
According to experts, the total amount approved for the various funds between 2003 and 2021 is US$6.85 billion while the amount disbursed is only US$2.47 billion. The cumulative amount approved in the last 4 years (2018 to 2021) is 3.21 billion USD with an average of 800 million USD per year.
