The chief of staff of the Ministry of Finance and Budget Bassirou Sarr, said last Thursday, October 16, that Senegal has the ambition to reduce its fiscal deficit from 7.8 to 5.2% in 2026.

The objective of the Senegalese State reflects its will to reduce expenses and to solicit less businesses and taxpayers. On the sidelines of the company meetings organized by the Council National Employers Council (CNP), the chief of staff indicated that “the budget deficit will be reduced from 7.8% to 5.2% in the 2026 finance law, reflecting the desire of the State to spend less and to solicit less businesses and consumers.”

For the latter, this sanitation policy aims to “spend less to solicit less businesses and consumers”, thus allowing “more wealth to remain in the private sector”.

Regarding the settlement of debt arrears Interior, the chief of staff of the Minister of Finance and Budget has announced that an “exceptional effort” of 529 billion CFA francs was approved in the 2025 amended finance law, including 218 billion already implemented, i.e. a rate of 87%.

An additional 300 billion was included in the 2026 finance law to continue debt settlement interior, said Bassirou Sarr.
