The 38th edition of the Global Financial Centers Index (GFCI) announces that the Mauritius International Financial Centre (MIFC) has passed Casablanca Finance City (CFC) to become the center the most competitive financial institution on the continent. For the first time since 2016.

A historic change has just taken place in the African financial landscape. After dethroning Johannesburg in 2016, Casablanca is now giving way to Mauritius. The Mauritian financial center now occupies the 52nd place in the world, climbing six positions compared to the GFCI 37 published in March 2025. Even more significantly, Mauritius is now positioned at third in the Middle East and Africa region, not only surrendering to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and ahead of Casablanca for the first time, which maintains its 56th place in the world. For Casablanca Finance City, this loss of African leadership marks the end of a period of domination that had begun in 2016, when the Moroccan center dethroned Johannesburg. For nearly a decade, CFC knew maintaining its position as a continental leader, drawing on several advantages structural.
