The Program for the Promotion of Private Investment in the Solar Energy Sector (PPIPS) is a new instrument of the West African Development Bank (BOAD) to boost solar energy in West Africa. It will mainly benefit Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger and Togo.

The PPIPS has a budget of CFAF 165.958 billion and is intended for the private sector through technical and financial support in the form of direct concessional loans. It aims to create a favorable framework for private investment in the solar energy sector, by removing financial and technical barriers. West African countries with the least access to energy will benefit from this new innovative financing mechanism of the BOAD to promote private investment in solar energy. The program was financed by the Green Climate Fund (CFAF 40 billion), BOAD (CFAF 40 billion) as well as local financial institutions and the private sector.
