The stock market capitalization of the Regional Stock Exchange in 2018 plunges,
collapses. All the flashing of the main indicators ended the year in red.
The information is contained in the 2018 Annual Report of the Central Bank of African States
the west (Bceao).
According to the issuing institute, the market capitalization amounted to 8,274.05 billion as of December 31, 2018
against 9,805.8 billion as of December 29, 2017, a decrease of 15.6%, attributable to the decline in
share compartment.
Indeed, the capitalization of the equity market fell from 6,836.2 billion at the end of December 2017 to
to be at 4,844.5 billion as of December 31, 2018, down 29.13%, while that of the market for
bonds increased over the same period by 460.0 billion, standing at 3,429.5 billion in
December 31, 2018.
Still according to the same source, the volume of transactions also recorded a decline during the
period under review, going from 362,640 shares traded on December 29, 2017 to 295,584 shares traded
at the end of December 2018.
Similarly, the BRVM indices also trended downward in 2018. The BRVM10, the main index
stock market, and the composite index, stood respectively at 154.36 points and 172.24 points at 31
December 2018, down respectively by 29.72% and 29.14% compared to the end of December 2017.
