The African Development Bank (AfDB) has just released 6.2 billion CFA francs (about 11.5 million US dollars) to Chad. This financial support aims to support girls' education and women's literacy. The AfDB supports the Government of Chad in reducing inequalities by facilitating girls' access to education and enabling the development of employability skills. According to a memorandum of understanding signed Wednesday in the Chadian capital N'Djamena by the AfDB Resident Representative, Ali Lamine Zène, and the Chadian Minister of Economy and Development Planning, Issa Doubragne, this new financial envelope will finance the girls' education and women's literacy project in Chad. In Chad, 57% of girls are deprived of education, according to data from the Chadian Ministry of National Education. And they also manifest themselves in a small percentage of girls in scientific and technical fields. Poverty, early marriage and pregnancy, gender-based violence, an environment affected by various conflicts, and cultural practices that are highly gendered from early childhood are all factors that promote gender disparities in secondary and higher education.
