ARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)--The dollar is losing ground against major currencies on Friday, after the publication of economic statistics showing the extent of the impact of the health crisis on the US labor market in December.

According to data released Friday by the Labor Department, the U.S. economy destroyed 140,000 net jobs in December, compared to 336,000 jobs created in November. Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal expected the creation of 50,000 net new jobs in the United States in December. The number of jobs created in November was initially estimated at 245,000.

While it gained 0.2% before these figures, the Dollar Index, which measures the evolution of the greenback against a basket of currencies, fell 0.1%, to 89.71.
