The Government of São Tomé and Príncipe and the Group from the African Development Bank strengthened the portfolio of 72 million euros from the Bank in the country and stimulate diversification economic of the country.

At a recent workshop on examining performances of the national portfolio organized in São Tomé and Príncipe, the Minister of State for Economy and Finance, Gareth Guadalupe, has indicated that “the loan portfolio of the African Development Bank in São Tome and Principe is an essential tool for development.” The Minister emphasized that the next National Development Plan of Government establishes a strategic framework to align investments of the Bank on national priorities, in order to ensure synergy and maximum efficiency.

The African Development Bank is a strategic partner for São Tomé and Príncipe. As of June 30, 2025, his national portfolio included 10 operations covering agriculture and rural development, multisectoral financing and energy. The minister has emphasized that the Government's next National Development Plan establishes a strategic framework to align the Bank's investments with national priorities, in order to ensure synergy and effectiveness maximums.

The minister said that the government was in in the process of finalizing the country's National Development Plan for 2026-2030, which had to be approved by the end of July 2025, and discussed the role strategic role of the Bank in the economic transformation of the country.
