A publication of the Ministry of Finance on Saturday October 18, 2025 indicates that the Government of Ghana plans to reduce unemployment by setting up an initiative that will create 500,000 jobs thanks to development of economic crops such as oil palm.

As part of a new strategy to transform the agricultural sector and accelerate economic growth inclusive, the Ghanaian government plans to create 500,000 jobs thanks to agriculture. Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance, said that he is a global policy on palm oil plantations, which will be presented in the 2026 budget. The aim of this project is to fully exploit the potential of these crops to generate large-scale jobs throughout along the value chain: from cultivation to export through transformation.

As a reminder, in Ghana, agriculture contributes to representing 20% of GDP and employing 35% of the active population. However, Accra remains a major importer of food and agricultural products, because the agri-food sector, being underdeveloped, is unable to meet growing demand.
