The Ghana Ministry of Finance announced the Wednesday September 24, 2025, the signing of a bilateral agreement debt restructuring , covering about 256 millions $ with United Kingdom.

The new agreement with the United Kingdom complements those already sealed with France and the Export-Import Bank of China. This agreement thus becomes the third concluded by Accra, within the common framework of the G20, after those concluded with France and the Export-Import Bank of China. It will unblock five infrastructure projects, including the Bolgatanga—Bawku—Pulimakom road, of the Obetsebi Lamptey interchange and ancillary works (phase II), of the construction of phase 1 of the Tema—Aflao road.

LE Ghanaian Minister of Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, believes that the signature is a “relief and a call to action”, stressing that the country hopes not to never go back to that point of over-indebtedness. However, he reaffirms Ghana's commitment to restoring debt sustainability and accelerating the growth.
