The Nigerian telecommunications regulator has set May 2022 as the start of 5G deployment on August 24, a few days before the end of the deadline Initially, the Ivorian company Mafab Communication is still not ready, unlike its rival MTN.

The launch of the fifth generation (5G) of mobile technology by the Nigerian company Mafab Communications will be extended by five months following the delay in L&# 39; granting of its unified operational license (UASL). This was confirmed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Sunday, August 21. According to Reuben Muoka, director of public affairs at the CCN, “The 5G license comes with a frequency license, not an operating license. So Mafab only has a frequency license and does not have an operational license and it must apply for an operational telecommunications license to be able to award 5G services and other telecommunications services.”

MAFAB Communication is with MTN, which is one of the two winners of the auction sale of the 5G telecom frequency spectrum in December 2021. This company did well in the 3.5 GHz band for $273.6 million with 100 MHz. When the final 5G spectrum licensing letters were delivered to Mafab and MTN last May, the NCC asked them to start deploying the new technology as of August 24. “We are committed to bringing the benefits of 5G services to Nigerians and to ; to enable a network that will stimulate economic development with increased broadband capabilities nationwide. I have no doubt that the service will contribute to improvements in the areas of education, smart business, smart cities, and entertainment,” announced the president of Mafab Communications, Musbahu Bashir following the NCC decision.
