The CRIET special prosecutor, Mario Metonou, announced on Friday, August 5, 2022, that he had placed 11 persons suspected of engaging in activities of cybercrime. 12 others have been released and summoned.

CRIET is putting 11 alleged offenders in prison for fictitious online sales and donations. As a modus operandi, presumed cybercriminals, we learn, present themselves as sellers of online products. They ask their victims to send money in order to receive these products. Once the funds are transferred, they disappear.

Those arrested simulated online donations to trick their victims into pretending to be donors. 23 of these individuals were apprehended and introduced to Fridays at La Criet. This, following several complaints from the victims.
