The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Equipment, Moussa Baldé has just announced the revival of the cotton sector due to the increase in yield and national production in 2021. The Société de développement et des fibres textiles (Sodefitex) is making efforts to restore the cotton sector. Domestic production of white gold increased in 2020; from 15 thousand tons in 2019 to 20 thousand tons in 2020. That is a surplus of 5 thousand tons. Although the area sown has decreased, the yield has increased to 3.5t/ha in the cotton sector of Linkéring, in the east of the department of Vélingara. On a field visit to sodefitex's largest cotton production area in the department of Vélingara on Saturday, Moussa Baldé promised to strengthen cotton farmers with heavy equipment. "This is an important progress in the cotton sector which testifies that its recovery, desired by the Head of State, is underway. We will intensify it with the General Management of Sodefitex and with all producers. The producers are to be congratulated. We need to create champions, that is, to ensure that 90% of producers make yields of 3.5t per hectare. We will do everything to ensure that cotton production never falls again," reassured Moussa Baldé.
