the validation workshop of the draft National Strategy for the fight against money laundering, the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (Lbc/FT-PADM) opened this Monday January 25, 2021 in Abidjan.
The work taking place at the headquarters of the Lbc/CFT Coordination Committee in Cocody will make it possible to prepare the Mutual Evaluation and the peer review of the national AML/CFT system under the aegis of GIABA, the Group
d'Action Financière (Gafi), the IMF and the World Bank, of its Lbc / CFT system in Côte d'Ivoire, in September 2021.
The results of the workshop will enable the country to adopt a sustainable National Lbc/FT Strategy (at least over the next ten years).
According to a national risk assessment carried out between December 2018 and December 2019, there is a low, almost non-existent risk for the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, due to the enormous financial means required to possess this type of weapon.
However, there are real risks of financing terrorism and money laundering due, in particular, to the intensity of cross-border movements and insufficient controls on financial flows in certain sectors such as that of non-financial businesses and professions.
