The tea towel is currently burning between the Coffee-Cocoa Council (CCC) and American multinationals, Hershey's and Mars.

These two chocolatiers refuse to apply the premium in force, of 400 dollars per ton or 221,295 FCFA, representing the Differential of Decent Income (DRD).

A decision that forced Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, which take over more than 60% of the world's cocoa production, to suspend their with the association of American chocolatiers, the Cocoa Herchants Association of America (CIMA), for its "complicity", with the multinationals involved.

The CCC had a meeting on Thursday, December 3, 2020 in Yamoussoukro with producers to inform them of the situation that currently prevails in the sector.

Also, organizations of planters present promised to put pressure on the interests of these multinationals on the ground in order to weigh in the discussions, even if it meant "boycotting all activities related to industrialists", reported a colleague present at the said meeting quoting Mr. Soro Penatirgué, President of the National Association of Agricultural Cooperatives of Côte d'Ivoire (Anacaci): "We ask them to ensure that we do not end up with sabotage activities, boycott activities," he added.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, only 6% of the chocolate business currently goes to the planter.

"It is not acceptable that we can continue in that voice. So the differential was negotiated in agreement with the chocolate maker to increase the income of the peasants and also increase the quality of production. You should know that this chocolate that is produced with the decent income differential actually comes out of Ghana and Ivory Coast, and that it is a quality label. So, we are working to ensure that the chocolatiers can respect their commitments, "said the first head of the guardianship, Adama Coulibaly, while assuring that things are going in the right direction and that very soon they will return to order.

It should be noted that, it is at the initiative of the various federations of coffee and cocoa producers, that this meeting of exchanges took place between the producers and the Coffee-Cocoa Council at the town hall of Yamoussoukro.
