The Directorate-General for the Treasury and Public Accounting, through its Directorate
credit institutions and external finance (DECFINEX) has been organising a >
public awareness campaign on cheque press release sent on Wednesday to AIP.
According to the director of credit institutions and external finance, Savané Mory, this campaign
relates to the texts in force, the different stages and the documents to be provided for the regularization as well as
than the penalties provided for against issuers of false cheques.
Indeed, in 2017, the Treasury conducted a control on the level of application of the control system of
payment incidents. On the basis of the provisions laid down in the relevant regulations, 25
banks and 123 customers were asked about aspects including knowledge of the
regularization and the risks incurred in the event of the occurrence of a payment incident.
Following this audit, recommendations were made to the Public Treasury, concerning on the one hand
training of bankers on the procedures for regularizing payment incidents related to cheques,
and raising public awareness of the fight against this phenomenon, on the other hand.
In terms of the regularization procedure, the documents to be provided are, among others, a photocopy of the
letter of injunction, unpaid income cheque, copy or declaration of loss, certificate of rejection and
any other proof of regularization (receipt of payment, receipt, legalized discharge, possible certificate
provision issued by the bank...).
The penalties for counterfeiters are the ban on issuing new cheques, br withdrawal of other forms of cheques, financial penalties and custodial sentences.
