The contribution of the Diaspora to the national economy is growing significantly in Senegal. It represented 10.5% of gross domestic product in 2021

Despite the worst health crisis, remittances from Senegalese migrants are steadily increasing. According to the executive secretary of the Financial Services Quality Observatory (Oqsr), Habib Ndao, “Senegalese migrants transferred 1.6 trillion CFA francs to their loved ones in 2021, an increase of 5%. This represented 10.5% of Senegal's gross domestic product in the same year.”

Le mardi dernier a eu lieu sur l' initiative de l' Oqsf et du United Nations Capital Development Fund (UnCDE) a workshop addressing migration and capital transfer issues and which aims to help Senegalese migrants better value the cash transfers they make to their loved ones. For the Secretary, better secure digital solutions should be sought to enable migrants to make productive investments. It will therefore be necessary to promote “savings and to direct the amounts transferred to sectors that can generate jobs”.
