Abdoulaye Diop and the seven other members of the Commission were sworn in on Monday in Ouagadougou before the Court of Justice of the Union, in accordance with Article 28 of the amended Treaty of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). .

During an extraordinary solemn public hearing chaired by Daniel Amagoin Tessougue, President of the Court of Justice of the Union, the new leaders were installed in their functions. "Your dedication should be to take up the challenge of our sub-region, where poverty and misery seem to have taken up residence," he told them.
For his part, the Advocate General of the Court, Kuami Gaméli Lodonou, recalled that “The Commission is a management body of the Union, with the Conference of Heads of State and Government and the Council of Ministers. It is the guarantor of the community's general interest and invested with the role of engine of integration, hence its central role in the institutional system of the Union because it is politically independent of national governments. It serves as a link between WAEMU, Member States, third States and other international organizations”.
