On Friday, December 5, 2025, the Société Générale des quarries and mines (Gécamines SA), a mining company in the Republic Democratic Congo and Mercuria Energy Trading announced the creation of a partnership to promote the commercialization of critical minerals from the Congolese mining sector, according to a press release from Gecamines .

In the press release of Gecamines , the partnership between Gécamines and Mercuria was developed as part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year. It establishes a framework for optimizing revenue from copper and cobalt production returning to Gecamines .
