Data published by the Central Agency on Sunday for public mobilization and statistics (CAPMAS) mention that the unemployment rate in Egypt increased slightly in the third quarter of 2025, reaching 6.4%, compared to 6.1% between April and June.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) indicated that the rise in the unemployment rate in Egypt is mainly linked to a significant increase in the working population total. However, the employment situation has improved compared to same period last year. The unemployment rate was 6.7% last year in third quarter 2024. CAPMAS attributes this quarterly increase to a increase of 3.3% in the working population, which reached 34.7 million people in the third quarter of 2025, compared to 33.6 million in the quarter previous.

The number of people employed also increased by 3% (to about 32.5 million against 31.6 million). While the growth of the labour pool has outpaced the creation of employment, which resulted in the registration of 175,000 new people on the unemployment lists during the third quarter.

The evolution of unemployment varies notable by gender and region The male unemployment rate reached 4% in the third quarter of 2025, compared to 3.5% in the previous quarter. While the female unemployment rate fell slightly, stabilizing at 15% of the total female workforce, compared to 15.8% in second quarter 2025, a marked improvement compared to 18.2% recorded a year ago.

Unemployment in the centers urban areas reached 10.1 per cent of the total urban workforce, compared to 9.7% in the second quarter. Rural unemployment remained lower, at 3.6% of the total rural workforce, a slight increase by compared to 3.3% in the previous quarter.
