The official launching ceremony of the Livestock and Fish Farming Value Chains Development Project (PDCVEP) was chaired by the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Taïga, on April 22 in Yaoundé .
At a cost of 65 billion FCFA, the project will be financed by a loan of 55 billion FCFA from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and by the equity of the State of Cameroon to the tune of 10 billion. It aims, over the next five years, to increase the competitiveness and hygiene of bovine, porcine and fish products and to improve the incomes of stakeholders as well as the creation of new jobs in the three value chains of the bovine, porcine and and fish farming.
The work will consist of producing and distributing 15 million straws of bovine semen, 1,000 frozen embryos for the production of 500 calves, fodder semen, high-performance piglets from grandparent and parental sires... It is also planned to train breeders on artificial insemination techniques, cattle fattening. The project plans to support at least 350 young people in the creation and development of businesses by facilitating the obtaining of loans from partner institutions.
