The Ministry of Justice of Burkina Faso, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), has launched a toll-free number to receive complaints about corruption.

Thanks to the 80 00 11 50 number, anyone wishing to denounce cases of corruption of which he or she is aware can now be heard. At the launch ceremony of this number, Me Barthélémy Kéré, the Minister of Justice, recalled the objective of this panel: "it aims, on the one hand, to give a strong message to every citizen on his responsibility to fight against the phenomenon, and on the other hand, to allow everyone to inform the Technical Inspection of Services of all cases of corruption detected in the justice and human rights sector." Ranked 85th out of 180 countries at the international level in 2020 and 10th in the ECOWAS region by the Corruption Perception Index of the NGO Transparency International, Burkina Faso can now hope to improve its image following the operationalization of the hotline. On the other hand, UNDP Deputy Representative Isabelle Tschan stressed that the most important thing after the launch of this number is that there be follow-up. "If there is no action after the complaints, the establishment of the toll-free number would be futile. Hence the need to put in place an effective system for handling complaints accompanied by a well known procedure for the treatment of all denunciations," she stressed.
