While preparations for the 2026 budgets are in Course in Nigeria, Dr. Philips Nto, director of the Incubation Center of agricultural enterprises from the Michael Okpara Agricultural University in Umudike a called on governments at all levels to prioritize funding of agriculture to improve food security.

University professor and agricultural expert, Dr. Nto said that only increased funding for agriculture in the 2026 budgets from all levels of government will ensure better returns, a added value and farmers' prosperity. According to him, a better budgetary allocation for agriculture in view of the central role that it plays a role in the development of the Nigerian economy. He also indicated that “Now that Nigeria's incomes are on the rise, more funds should be invested in agriculture and agribusiness to ensure our future.”

The former Commissioner of Finance and economic development in the State of Abia also pointed out that these funding should focus more on added value for limit post-harvest losses, adding that the government should consider giving agricultural subsidies to real farmers and relaunch agricultural extension services to make them more functional.

“Agriculture is a booming sector evolution that requires the continuous training of rural farmers. La revitalizing agricultural extension services will help farmers to adopt new techniques to improve their performance. The centers business incubation,” he said.
