During his intervention on the budget debates in the National Assembly on Friday, June 12, 2020, the Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Mr. Mahen Seeruttun, underlined the government's determination to restore the reputation of Mauritius as a center credible and reliable financial.

The government will endeavor to remove Mauritius from the list of jurisdictions under increased surveillance by the Financial Action Task Force ( FATF ) and from the list of high-risk third countries by the European Commission (EC), insisted M Seeruttun. He recalled that working groups have been set up to implement measures aimed at remedying the shortcomings highlighted by the FATF.

The Minister indicated that an assessment will be carried out by the FATF on these particular points towards the end of August/beginning of September.

In addition, highlighted Mr. Seeruttun, the Prime Minister turned to several international bodies to announce the inclusion of Mauritius, without prior consultations, on the list of high-risk third countries published by the EC. . This unilateral decision was taken to the detriment of the country's economy, especially during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, he regretted.

The government, insisted Mr. Seeruttun, has started discussions with the European Union and its member countries so that Mauritius is removed from this list which will come into force on October 1, 2020. The minister added that a collective effort at the level national is also important.
