The Minister of Finance and Budget, Calixe Nganongo, opened on August 5, in Brazzaville, a seminar devoted to the pre-assessment of the national system for the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism. The capacity building session brings together local public and private actors and aims to prepare Congo to master the context and requirements of the mutual evaluation exercise. It will therefore be a question of sensitizing all national stakeholders to the fight against money laundering, to the new methodology of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and to community obligations. This meeting also aims to train the participants on their responsibilities for a good national coordination of the mutual evaluation. Added to this are the modules on the specific tasks they must carry out in order to contribute to the completion of the mutual evaluation questionnaire and the collection of relevant information. The government is committed to cleaning up public governance in order to be able to combat the new challenges of financial crime, underlined the Minister of Finance and Budget, Calixte Nganongo. “This requires the responsible management of public affairs with a view to satisfying the basic needs of citizens, and of which the fight against money laundering is an essential link in that it contributes to the improvement of morals and financial practices. “said the minister. Initiator of the activity, the permanent secretary of the Action Group against Money Laundering in Central Africa (Gabac), Gervais Mbata, urged the government to increase the means to fight against money laundering. “The fight against this scourge must be a concern for everyone. It must not remain an empty word but translate into behavior for all layers of our States,” he pleaded. To this end, the four-day meeting will be led by the evaluators, nationals of the countries of the jurisdiction of Gabac with the tools of the Gafi, as well as the support of the World Bank. Recall that Gabac is a specialized institution of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community in charge of promoting community standards and monitoring their effective implementation.
