Benin will benefit from $42 million in French funding for cultural projects, including the establishment of the museum to house cultural property held abroad. The financing agreement was signed on Thursday 3 June between the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Beninese Ministry of Economy and Finance.Since 2016, negotiations between the France and Benin have focused on the repatriation of cultural property looted during French colonization. The government has rightly launched a book called the Museum of the Epic of the Amazons and the Kings of Danhomè and the enhancement of the palatial site of Abomey. This infrastructure is intended to accommodate Beninese cultural heritage properties looted during the colonial period, and whose return has been the subject of negotiations between Cotonou and Paris for several years. Thus, the French financing consists of a donation and a loan, the funds aim among other things to finance the construction of the Museum of the epic of the Amazons and the kings of Danhomè which will house the 26 works dating from the time of the ancient kingdom of Danhomè.
