Benin's balance of payments for 2019 saw an increase of 45.550 billion CFA francs (68.325 million euros).
The dynamics of the economy in 2019 resulted in the achievement of an estimated growth rate of 6.9% against 6.7% in 2018 thanks to the performance of export sectors and the satisfactory implementation of the Government's action program.
The structural deficit of the current account balance narrowed slightly to 340.177 billion CFA francs in 2019 against 360.362 billion CFA francs the previous year.
As for the net services deficit, it increased by 14.988 billion CFA francs, to 162.430 billion CFA francs in 2019 against a deficit of 147.441 billion CFA francs in 2018.
In addition, the Balance of Payments Committee noted that the secondary income surplus amounted to CFAF 127.074 billion, mainly due to budget support received by general government and workers' remittances.
For its part, the capital account surplus consolidated by CFAF 7.156 billion, amounting to CFAF 116.304 billion during the year under review against CFAF 109.147 billion in 2018, in line with the international economy.
