For the operations manager of the World Bank for Benin, Atou Seck, quoted in the communiqué, this support will help to fill the gap in budgetary resources to meet the basic social needs and the productive sector.
"The spread of the coronavirus has led to a decline in economic activities, economic growth of the country but also in government revenues as it faces pressing needs," he explained.
This funding, explains the same press release, now brings the total amount allocated by the World Bank for Benin to deal with this health crisis.
According to the figures published Saturday evening on the official website set up by the Beninese government as part of the management of the pandemic, Benin has recorded as of June 26, 2020 a total of 1,124 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 815 people on treatment, 295 people cured and 14 deaths.
