The Assembly of Heads of State of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) has renewed the lease of the Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) for a 6-year term, Financial Afrik learned from the institution's internal sources. Recruited by competitive examination after his higher studies, then transferred to the Senior Management of the Bank in 1975, he spent most of his career there, having successively been Central Director of Issuance and Financial Operations at the BCEAO headquarters in Dakar, and in this capacity, he was also a member of the Committee for The Analysis of the Internal and International Economic Situation.

From 1991 to 1998, he was National Director of the BCEAO for Côte d'Ivoire and Alternate Governor at the International Monetary Fund. Then, in turn, Advisor to the Governor of the BCEAO and Director of the Department of General Administration and Training and Special Advisor to the Governor and Comptroller General of the BCEAOCumulatively, Tiémoko Meyliet KONE was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CRRAE-UMOA (Pension Fund by Distribution WAMU Agents) from 1996 to 2006.


 
Subsequently, in 2007, Mr. Tiémoko KONE joined the Ivorian Public Administration in which he held the position of Director of Cabinet of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, with the rank of Minister (2007 to 2010), Minister of Construction, Urban Planning and Housing and, finally, from December 2010 to May 2011, those of Special Advisor to the President of the Republic, in charge of Economic and Financial Affairs.

In addition, in his current position, Governor Koné is also Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee of the BCEAO, President of the WAMU Banking Commission, Chairman of the WAEMU Financial Stability Committee, Chairman of the Steering Committee of the WAMU Securities Agency and Chairman of the Board of Directors of CESAG (African Centre for Higher Studies in Management). Internationally, Governor Tiémoko Meyliet Koné is a member of the Board of Directors of the Global Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI).


 
During his various stages of his career, the governor received several distinctions including those of the Commander of the International Order of Academic Palms of CAMES (African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education), Commander of the National Order of Côte d'Ivoire, Commander of the National Order of Guinea Bissau, Grand Officer of the National Order of Benin and Officer of the French Legion of Honor.

A true living institutional memory of the BCEAO, the governor is an orthodox central banker but attentive to the changes in his world as evidenced by the launch of covid bonds, these financing instruments of the WAEMU States that have earned the institution the praise of the IMF.
