The Sustainable Bond of the Year 2021 Prize was awarded to the West African Development Bank (BOAD) by an independent jury made up of experts and investors brought together by the specialized magazine "Environmental Finance".

The 2021 Sustainability Bond of the Year Award recognizes those who excel, innovate and contribute to the development of financial markets. On January 14, BOAD issued the first sustainable development objective bond issue on the African continent, which was a great success with international investors.

This issue, for an amount of 750 million euros with a maturity of 12 years, attracted 269 international investors with a total demand of 4.4 billion euros, ie an oversubscription representing almost 6 times the amount sought.
According to the specialized journal "Environmental Finance", this is a historic transaction, not only for BOAD, but also for sub-Saharan Africa as a whole, as well as a testimony to the key role of the Institution. sub-regional in financing for development.

BOAD is the second financial institution, after AfDB, to have issued an issue on the international financial market in euros over this period. In line with the vision of BOAD's 2021-2025 strategic plan called "Djoliba Plan", this issue demonstrates BOAD's commitment to financing projects with a strong environmental and social impact.
