Momou Dembélé, 30, is an electrician by training. Married with two children, she left her hometown
Kimparana's native, where she was on an internship, to join the city of Ségou, in the center of the country.
With the support of her husband, she landed her first job at Moulin Moderne du Mali (M3).
"M3 was a real opportunity for me. My favorite thing about my job is the time I
has to take care of my family. I am fulfilled, I help my children to study. I represent a
pride for all women trained in electricity and for all Malians," says Momou.
His colleague Korotimi Bomba, an electromechanic in the company, is equally proud of the opportunity that he
was offered to M3. "At the electrotechnical school, I studied wiring and equipment troubleshooting. M3
needed staff in this area and reached out to me. I took my chance," she says.
My daily is work. This work allowed me to be financially independent. I'm perfecting myself
now to progress to M3."
In Mali, there is a real need to create jobs, especially for young people in rural areas. The
Imported food products are sometimes inaccessible, risking situations of insecurity
alimentary. For Moulins Moderne du Mali, it was necessary to face the challenge through the local production of flours and
pasta.
The company has secured €16.8 million in financing from the African Development Bank, in
2014, for the extension and diversification of its industrial activities. Support that allowed M3 to
build seven production lines installed in Ségou with an annual production capacity of 27000br
tons of pasta, 7200 tons of wheat, millet and corn couscous and 55000 tons of flour. The
production residues will be recovered in the form of livestock feed production (approximately 84000
tonnes per year).
"M3 was created to meet the food needs of the population. Our success is to ensure
food self-sufficiency in Mali, explains Abdou Dramane Tassembedo, ceo of M3. No
the African Development Bank, this project would certainly not have seen the light of day. It made it possible to create
more than 400 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs. We work to improve youth employment and to >< enable them to succeed in Africa."
Hamidou Fane (32) is a baker. It is one of the beneficiaries of the production chains set up
by M3. "We have many regular customers. Almost all the inhabitants of the commune of Ségou
are our customers. With the establishment of the M3 mill, we get the flour at a fairly low price and with this
flour, we produce bread at a reduced cost," he explains
In Ségou and the surrounding villages, the baguette of bread costs 100 CFA francs. "It never happened
done here before. It was necessary to pay 150 FCFA for a baguette. Today, it's easy, for most
Malians, to have access to it because we make our bread on the spot. I spend my days at work:
I make my bread and sell it to the population, that's what I like the most," concludes Hamidou.
