It aims to strengthen the capacities of the national points of the ministries responsible for the budgets allocated to agriculture, which should make it possible to establish indicators to guide public expenditure on agriculture.
The focal points present at the workshop organized by FAO will be instructed on the standards for collecting expenditure data, which should be in accordance with the Manual of Statistics of IMF public finances and the classification of government functions in Grand-Bassam (40 km south-east of Abidjan). For Anne-Marie Kouassi N'Da, representing the FAO resident representative, this workshop aims to provide a basis for the practical implementation of reports that comply with the international standard on public expenditure in agriculture.
This workshop is based on several objectives, including SDG objective 2a. Indeed, for FAO, it is a question of being able to involve all countries in calculating their indices that are linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The target is the need to increase investments in achieving SDG Goal 2, and is measured by the indicator.
As a very important sector in Africa, agriculture accounts for 65% of total employment and 32% of GDP. For example, FAO estimates that the world will have to produce 70% more food for 2.3 billion additional people by 2050.
