Aka Véronique chaired on Monday, May 20, 2019, the opening of the 27th extraordinary session of the Interparliamentary Committee of Uemoa (Cip-Uemoa).

In her capacity as the first person in charge of this sub-regional structure, she informed, during this ceremony at the Radison Blu hotel, in Port-Bouët, that two major and topical themes will fill the discussions, namely: the “Role of parliamentarians in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism” and the “Single currency in the ECOWAS space: issues and challenges”.

Diawara Mamadou, vice-president of the National Assembly, representing Amadou Soumahoro, the head of the hemicycle, welcomed these themes. For him, issues relating to terrorism and the single currency are subjects that generate many debates in West Africa.

This 27th session, according to him, is therefore an opportunity for parliamentarians from the Uemoa space to not only provide credible and reassuring information to the populations on the future of the Cfa zone and the progress of the process of the creation of the single currency of ECOWAS.

But also to lead a sincere and profound debate on terrorism and violent extremism. "The constraints facing parliaments in the fight against terrorism and extremism imply a necessary integration of regional legislative frameworks, in order to take into account the transnational nature of these phenomena", he pointed out. .

Diawara Mamadou also wished that such sessions be held regularly, in order to increase parliamentary cooperation in the Uemoa space.

He did not fail to express the support of the National Assembly to Aka Véronique, deputy of M'Batto-Assahara, in the exercise of her new functions at the head of Cip-Uemoa.

Reassured, the vice-president of the hemicycle has made a commitment to work for the influence of its structure, by placing sub-regional integration at the heart of its actions.

“These days, integration is a means of survival. The importance and complexity of the challenges to be met presuppose the adhesion of the populations to the project of building a harmonized and prosperous space”, she was convinced.
