The ^16th edition of the African Banker Awards gala ceremony took place on May 25 at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, Ghana. Vera Songwe, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, and other authorities were honoured.

According to a press release, the event took place under the high patronage of the African Development Bank, as part of the annual meetings program of the Bank. More than 300 banking and finance professionals attended the gala ceremony to discover the winners of the 2022 African Banker Awards. Vera Songwe, United Nations Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, received the African Banker Icon Award for her hard work in providing governments with the fiscal tools needed to deal with the impact of Covid-19 19.

Angolan Finance Minister Esperança dos Santos Daves de Sousa was elected Finance Minister of the Year for her outstanding work in preparation for Ré establish market stability and confidence in your country. Another notable distinction was given to Michael Atingi-Ego, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Uganda, who was named Central Bank Governor of the Year.

Among other winners, Nigerian banker Atedo Peterside, founder of IBTC Bank, was named for his lifetime career and his remarkable contribution to the banking sector. Benedict Oramah was named African Banker of the Year for his immense work in developing Afreximbank.
