On Thursday, December 04, last year, the African Bank of Development approved financing of 15 billion CFA francs, or 22.9 millions of euros. This loan is intended to strengthen and extend access to electricity in Côte d'Ivoire, according to local media.

Funding granted by The ADB is intended to support the 2nd phase of the Electricity Programme for All (PEPT) implemented in Côte d'Ivoire, this envelope includes 16 million euros from the ADB and 6.9 million euros from the Energy Fund Sustainable in Africa (SEFA) according to the information. It scores the first subscription by the said Bank to a social bond in local currency, in the area of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), and will make it possible to create some 400,000 new electricity connections over the period 2025-2026, for the benefit of 2.2 million people, including 35% live in rural areas in Côte d'Ivoire. For Kevin Kariuki, Vice President of the ADB Group in charge of Electricity, Energy, Climate and Green Growth, “this innovative bond structure illustrates how the Bank deploys solutions for creative financing to achieve universal access to energy.”
