Data compiled by the Regional Programme for Integrated Cotton Production in Africa (PR-PICA) in its latest newsletter published on Wednesday, July 16, indicates that the volume of the seed cotton harvest shows a decrease of 11.5% compared to the production achieved during the agricultural season excess (2.6 million tons

).

The CFA zone is the main cotton production center in Africa. After an encouraging rebound during the 2023/2024 campaign, the prospects for recovery came up against a more difficult reality in 2024/2025 between climate hazards and persistent phytosanitary challenges. Tété Awokou, president of PR-PICA, explained the decrease recorded by the rainfall irregularities in the area and the challenges associated with the management of parasitic infestations. “The 2024/2025 cotton campaign, which has ended, was characterized in the Programme countries by rainfall irregularities and low pest pressure, with the exception of jassides, which were present throughout the cotton cycle with medium to heavy infestations”, underlines the

manager in particular.

Overall, seed cotton production has declined in all countries in the region except Senegal and Benin.
