“2021 will still be a much more difficult year than 2020.” This is the grim prediction of Abdoul Mbaye who, too, made his “Message to the Nation.” “2021 will therefore be another difficult year because the so-called Senegalese growth will continue to not reduce poverty. It will continue to be characterized by the absence of sufficient jobs created, as noted recently by a study by the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group,” insists the former Prime Minister.

For Abdoul Mbaye, growth, if it exists, is confiscated by politicians who quickly become billionaires and a few businessmen who have come out of nothing to be put at their service. The ex-PM remains convinced that 2021 is another year of “economic failure” but it would be wrong, in his opinion, to present it as the consequence of the crisis that the pandemic explains in other countries of the world. Moreover, he recalls, he had contested “such nonsense”, which based the growth of our economy on actions and on levers that were both “contrary to an acceleration of growth and contradictory between them.”
