Last Thursday, March 7, the Indian Ministry of Agriculture shared the first preliminary estimate of horticultural crop production for the current year according to which fruit, banana, orange and mango production is expected to increase by 2% to 112 MT.

In India, the production of horticultural crops composed of fruits, vegetables, spices, medicinal plants and plantation crops for the 2023 crop year- 24 (July-June) is projected at 355.2 million tonnes (MT), slightly lower than the previous year's record of 355.4 MT. The area devoted to horticultural crops in the current year is expected to reach a record level of 28.77 million hectares (MH), a marginal increase compared to

the previous year.

The area covered by horticultural crops increased slightly to 28.34 million hectares in the 2022—23 crop year, compared to 28.04 million tons the previous year, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture.
