The fourth ordinary session of the Council of Ministers of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) met opened on Monday December 29, 2025. It allowed the President of the Council, Aboubacar Nacanabo, to draw up the Union's main economic guidelines for the year 2026.

The Council recognizes the persistence of major challenges, Which are regional insecurity, geopolitical tensions, effects of climate change and increased social pressure, despite a conjunct marked by positive signals in terms of monetary stability and growth. Faced with these challenges, Aboubacar Nacanabo identified three levers priorities for strengthening the economic resilience of the Union, in particular:

Boldness in reforms;

Solidarity between Member States;

Discipline in public policy.

Major projects on the 2026 agenda

The work of the session includes: analysis of the economic and monetary situation in the Union; the prospects financial and budgetary decisions for 2026; strategic decisions related to community budget; several governance issues institutional.

The meeting aims to accelerate integration, consolidate macroeconomic convergence and improve sustainably the business environment in the community space.
