On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio inaugurated the headquarters of the West African Insurance Companies Association Reinsurance Corporation (WAICA Re) in Freetown.

The Sierra Leonean President thus reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring a stable legal and regulatory framework for this institution. According to him, this inauguration materialized a long-standing commitment, stemming from the 2011 agreement that established WAICA Re in the country.

The agreement regarding the establishment of WAICA Re's headquarters in Freetown implies the government's responsibility to ensure a favorable environment for the company's activities.

The President also stated that "Sierra Leone is open to credible investments and welcomes institutions that contribute to regional cooperation and economic resilience".
