The Phase 2 Forest Investment Project (PIF2) was launched on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 in Abidjan. The World Bank has granted financial support of 148 million dollars, or 94 billion FCFA, for the restoration of Ivorian forest cover.

After the first project of its kind at a cost of 7.5 billion FCFA francs, launched in 2018, whose results were conclusive, this is followed by the PIF 2 intervention, which will run over seven years. Laurent Tchagba, Minister of Water and Forests, represented the Ivorian government during the launch of the project.

He specified that its implementation will preserve and increase the forest stock through the agroforestry program covering 300,000 hectares of classified degraded forests in the south-west of the country and in classified forests in the savannah zone, through an intensive reforestation program covering 20,000 hectares of forest Ts.

This project also aims to improve people's sources of income and strengthen biodiversity conservation in four national parks including Tai National Park, the second primary forest in Africa, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a biosphere reserve.
