On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Japan announced the granting of a donation of 30.4 million dirhams, or about 3.3 million dollars, in favor of the Moroccan fishing sector. This financial assistance was formalized by the signing of an agreement between Onishi Yohei, Deputy Minister Japanese parliamentarian for foreign affairs, and Zakia Driouich, secretary State Department in charge of Marine Fisheries at the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture.

According to information relayed by the local media, this Envelope is intended for the implementation of the project to develop a port of new generation fishing in Souiria K'dima, in the province of Safi. The The project is part of the non-reimbursable financial cooperation of Japanese government, implemented by the Japan Cooperation Agency international (JICA).

This new donation brings to 157 million Dirhams, or approximately $17.2 million, the total amount of Japanese support devoted to this strategic project. Last February, Rabat and Tokyo had already signed a first grant agreement of 133 million Dirhams for the same project. “The An additional donation reinforces this project by ensuring the realization of complete of all planned components, in accordance with the objectives initial ones, thus guaranteeing an integral and sustainable implementation”, highlights The daily newspaper Today Morocco.

The fishing port development project in Souiria K'dima is mainly aimed at strengthening capacities and functions fish landing facilities. In a press release published on 2 February 2025, JICA specified that the program would be deployed over a period of time of 43 months.
